Cytogenetics Technologist in Shelton, CT . In this position you will work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment, and will be a part of our overall mission at Labcorp: "Improving Health, Improving Lives".
In this position you will have the opportunity to work in a branch of genetics that focuses on the study of the structure, function, and behavior of human chromosomes. Other techniques include molecular cytogenetics such as fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH). Both applications aid in the diagnosis, classification, and treatment of acquired genetic diseases. Our oncology division is focused on providing world class solutions to better the lives of patients living with cancer.

. Job Duties/Responsibilities: - Perform routine technical procedures including accessioning the specimen into the laboratory, tissue culture, harvesting, slide preparation, staining and/or probing, microscope analysis, imaging, and preparation of diagnostic results.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation
- Demonstrate the ability to problem solve
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls
- Report accurate and timely test results for quality patient care
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- Minimum 6 months of clinical laboratory testing experience is required at Technologist level
- Previous experience is not required at Technologist Trainee level
- ASCP certification (CG) is preferred
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
